ABOUT THE RANCH

At Wonder Wood Ranch, we bring hope and healing to youth
through therapeutic animals in a safe environment.

“The staff is so welcoming and makes me feel like I matter.” — Youth, age 17

Wonder Wood Ranch, a 501(c)3 charitable organization located in Prunedale, California, serves foster, high-trauma, low income, underprivileged, gang-impacted, and/or homeless kids and youth from high crime, at risk areas of Monterey County. Kids learn about horses and ride, usually for the first time in their lives. The look on a kid’s face when he first sits on a horse and realizes there can be more to life than gangs, drugs, and desperation is amazing! From atop a horse, kids find a new perspective, a better perspective, on life.

We also provide private equine therapy sessions and private horsemanship lessons (see below for more info). Riding lessons available in summer only. Plus, there are often crafts, snacks, archery, lessons in grooming, reading, writing, donkey care (Everybody loves donkeys!), art, and other fun farm animals such as chickens, bunnies, goats, pigs, and a couple chinchillas. We are always thinking up new programs, so check back often for news and new opportunities!

Check out our BLOG page for updates on what's new and our EVENTS page for what's coming up next. Our PROGRAMS & SPONSORSHIP page outlines our current programs and how you can support the Ranch and the kids who come. To Volunteer at the Ranch, please fill out our Volunteer Questionnaire
(Click here for Volunteer Questionnaire) and email it to marlo@wonderwoodranch.com.

Our staff are volunteers and we operate mostly off private donations and small grants. If you would like to volunteer, or if you have a group of kids that fit our demographic and would like to discuss bringing them to the Ranch, contact us using the form below. We can custom-create programs to specifically suit your group of kids or youth. To get an idea of our current programs, visit our PROGRAMS & SPONSORSHIP page.

We also provide equine therapy and private horsemanship lessons, with part of the fees going to support our pro-bono work with at-risk kids. For more info about equine therapy (cost: $100/hr), Email our Executive Director or use the contact form below. Equine therapy includes riding as well as other activities. Regarding private horsemanship lessons, during the school year lessons will be scheduled by appointment only. Horsemanship lessons focus on horse training and handling and are led by our professional horse trainer. For horsemanship sessions, Email Bria. Find out more about Bria in this short informational video. During summer months only, horseback riding lessons will be offered on a first come first served basis. Current rates for horsemanship sessions and summer riding lessons: $75/hr per person.  Please pay with Venmo, cash, or a check written out to Wonder Wood Ranch.

Horsemanship sessions are typically on Saturdays during the school year.
Equine Therapy can be scheduled any day except Sunday.

We hope you will partner with us to make a positive difference in the lives of kids and in our community!
